Founded in the late 1800s, this is one of Murano’s largest glass factories that supplied some of the mosaics for the Vatican in Rome. From lamps and tableware to decorative pieces and sculpture, all objects are produced by hand in a process that can be seen during a guided visit (with advanced scheduling). During your tour, ask to see the photo of one of the world’s largest chandeliers, made by Mazzega in the 1990s for an Indonesian family. This upscale factory focuses on special production and, unlike some of Murano’s other factories, it is not open for large group tours. Mazzega’s artisans will produce custom pieces (for a hefty fee of course) if you have something in mind. Over the years the factory has hosted many illustrious guests, including Brooke Shields and Barbara Bush. Mazzega’s designs reflect their adherence to tradition and classic styles as well as their sense for evolving designs and tastes.
